Yep, Still Here
Lordie, I haven't posted on LJ/DW for two entire weeks. I guess I am finding FB easier. Sigh.
Hope you're all doing well. Nothing much to report, except I'll be updating my 2014 convention schedule this week (I have
to get in touch with GenCon if I'm gonna make that happen). And I'm trying to have some new music, not merely new live shows, in the next month or so. We'll see.
And how are you? This entry was originally posted at http://filkertom.dreamwidth.org/1648076.html. You may comment there or here, although LJ tends to have a livelier conversation at this time.

Facebook really is easier to post to - they have a simplified field that automatically picks up on links, hash-tags, and contact names. Impressively streamlined, now that I think about it.
We're still plugging away at trying to promote our moving fundraiser - seems like everyone is having a rough time, though, so that's going slow. Other than that, we're getting ready to enter packing, stage 2. (Anything we won't need for the next three months gets to go in boxes.)

Doing ok. Weekend was too short. I did get a couple of projects finished.

I'm not on FB so I don't see any posts you made. The newest thing I see is on your fan page and that's from March 2013. I was starting to get worried. I'd rather not get a FB account, but if more of my friends are going there I may have to reconsider. I'm on Twitter at least.
I got a treadmill so I can get some more exercise. It's in the living room so I can see it (you know, out of sight out of mind). I also got into a weekend beta test for an MMORPG called Wildstar. I enjoyed it. It didn't have the same new thrill as City of Heroes, but that could be because back then MMOs were still new to me and you can't get that same thrill twice. I think it's a good game but I know some people won't like the art style or its core mechanics. For me, it was fun and didn't take itself too seriously; two things that seem to be forgotten in other MMOs.
I'm also thinking again about doing a filk/fan music podcast where I'd feature one artist (or more if they don't have many albums) per show. The hard part will be getting all the permissions I'd need. Like say I wanted to play one of the songs recorded in a filk circle. I'd need to get the OK from not only the performers but the original song writer. And what happens if someone doesn't get back to me or has passed away? You know what filk really needs, some organization/association to help manage stuff like this.
Glad you're OK and good luck getting the convention schedule up and the new music.

Interesting idea about the podcast. I hope it does happen.
Also, if you end up joining FB, make sure to join "Filker". Its closed group (to keep the spammers out), but its active with news and songs. (Its also the main reason I even bothered to join facebook about 2 years ago. I still don't care for the service.)

I don't like FB either with it's ever-changing TOA and EULA and security breaches. But at this point I'm not sure where else to go since Tom doesn't post here much. I thought about posting more to my own LJ but no one reads it in the first place so why bother.
As for the podcast, for that to happen I'd have to get serious about it and make a commitment. I could probably host it on my own website to cut down on costs, but I don't want it to be one of those podcasts that just last a few months then vanishes. I hate it when that happens. So I'd want to get twelve shows in the queue (one year) before I do anything. I got the OK from Marc Gunn since I talked it over with him when he announced he's ending one of his own podcasts. I wouldn't mind helping out on an existing podcast and learn how it's done before venturing out on my own.

I came back here. But its so dead I don't know how long I'll stay,

I think it's a self-fulling prophecy. Everyone says LJ is dead so no one comes which makes LJ dead. But that's just my opinion. One day FB will become the new LJ because everyone moved onto the next big thing.

Not on Facebook, so I haven't seen you.
I'll be at Escapade next weekend in L.A. (slash convention), Consonance the weekend after that. Will likely spend one Escapade day visiting the Aged Ps (90 and 89).
I enjoyed my little town of Concord, CA's first comic convention a week ago Sunday. It was a real comic convention - you know, with COMICS and artists, for a $5 door charge - not a $ee Actor$ And Wait in Packed Room$ For Hour$ To Grovel at Jo$$ Whedon'$ Feet comic con.
Also, made a really bitchin' chicken soup the other day. Impressed even myself. Recipe upon request.

I refuse to have anything to do with Facebook, for a very long list of reasons. And by now I have so many LJ friends, I can barely keep up with LJ, never mind adding another social forum. But I do miss reading, and occasionally responding to, your LJ.

Facebook has to be relentlessly neutered to make it safe. Firstly, all apps have to be shut off, no apps, and no games. I hate it, but its where my friends are People won't even use the phone, but respond instantly to Facebook.

I know a lot of people (beginning with my daughter-in-law's family) who seem to only want to communicate via text messages, although I know they're also on Facebook. I'll just use the phone the old-fashioned way, and if they don't answer a voice call, I'll leave a message. If they don't answer the message, I'll try again later, and leave another voice message if I have to. I can be very annoying persistent :-)

I hear ya. I don't trust FB and I don't like the fact you have to use your real name. My screen name is how many people know me and while I know anonymity can be abused it's also a way I can express my views (which aren't exactly popular) without having to worry about being threatened by someone who gets offended.

I continue to not use FB (yes, you can find me there, but as stated elsewhere, the account was only created so my ex could be "in a relationship with" me). I did poke around recently just to make sure my ex was still breathing, but I'd much rather be here. Not much going on, I grant you, but this is much more comfortable. Too many folks posting thoughtlessly there - no, I don't care what you had for lunch or how long your commute was today.
Always good to see you when you're here, Tom!
