Farewell, Nelson Mandela

Incredible sadness.

Not many people can be said to have changed the world, especially for the better. Nelson Mandela was one of them. Rest well, sir, and thank you.

I've had your song in my head since I heard the news.

I remember the day he became President, thinking to myself, "Today Satan ice-skates in Hell, because the man who's been in jail since I was a baby is the ruler of that nation."

And like MLK, he said plenty that pissed off the white folks who are now trying to whitewash his memory - he was pro-labor, anti-Iraq war, and called out American racism.
