PenguiCon and UITA Con

After a bit of confusion (as opposed to ConFusion), I have indeed been confirmed for both PenguiCon (next weekend in Pontiac, MI) and Up In The Aether Con (Memorial Day weekend in Dearborn, MI).

The PenguiCon concert should be interesting. I'm not getting a ballroom -- I'm getting a lounge. As Tim, head of programming, describes it, it's "a very comfy lounge adjacent to the Hotel restaurant... a very intimate setting for a performance". Sounds great, actually. We'll have us a Silly Like Sardines ol' time!

Other musical guests include our buddy Devo Spice, Wax Chaotic, Nikola Lazar Whallon, and GOHs Inverse Phase. They all have concerts in the evening, so it should be a hell of a good loud night.

And the other guests aren't slouches either, including well-deserving Author GOH and most excellent buddy Jim C. Hines!

And as to Up In The Aether Con...? Just go to their web site and mouse over Programming. They've got an astonishing bunch of stuff, including Voltaire. (I'm not on the web site yet, but I promise I'll be singing at the con.)

So. Who's interested in going, or already planning to go, or what else are you doing those weekends...?

So, at Penguicon you'll be a lounge singer?

For what it is worth, the room that will be used for the concerts at Conjecture 2013 / Conchord 25 in October used to be a nightclub, and still has a bit of a lounge-like feel. But we'll probably have normal rows of seating directly in front of the stage, leaving the tables out on the wings.

Heh. Dinner theater. Works for me!

I'll be at UitA Con! Excited to see you there, I've caught your performances the last two years at World Steam Expo and they were always great fun.

Very excited to see your lounge show! (And Nikola, who we saw up in Pontiac when Piko Piko brought in a bunch of acts the night of the I Fight Dragons/MC Lars concert and absolutely loved.)

It should be fun, and it'll be great to see you!

Sorry I had to bail before it ended, the wind kept picking up and I was getting really chilled. I swear, I am totally incapable of generating my own body heat.

I did manage to spend FOUR HOURS soaking up music Saturday night. People were like "I thought you went home!" and I was like "MUSIC! There was music!"

Well Memorial Day weekend I usually visit my parents (since at that point I haven't seen them since Christmas). My brother's birthday is around that time too so a visit from him is probably in the works (fortunately I have enough PTO to handle taking a day off for him).

I'm not sure about next weekend. It depends on how I feel and what I want to do. I may just take it easy. Tonight I'm running a game at a local convention. I'm not sure I'll stay the weekend. There may not be enough there to justify going. I have some hope of starting a new gaming group, but not much. FRPGs are popular and I'm not all that into them. OTOH I'm thinking about trying Neverwinter MMORPG (there's a difference in my mind between an RPG with actual people and an RPG with a computer) for something new and different. And that game is supposed to be going into open beta soon.

Sounds as if you shouldn't worry about it, m'friend. I have to see if I can make it for MuseCon.

I definitely recommend going to Musecon. It's in August and they already have their programming schedule up under the menu item "Descriptions" (other cons happening sooner still don't have their schedules up). It's not really a sci-fi con but it's run by sci-fi fans (mostly because we know how to set up a convention). It's a convention for creative people. For me it's a chance to try something new and different. Two things to remember is programming starts at 1:30 on Friday and you'll have to drive somewhere to get a reasonably priced meal (there's not much around and the hotel restaurant is pricy). It's turning into one of my favorite cons.

Next weekend we are at a college mini-reunion. Basically a bunch of old friends are renting a condo around the corner from Wrigley and hanging out for the weekend.

Memorial Day weekend ... we're staying home. I'm recovering faster all the time, but I still want a lot of down time.

Understood. Hugs to both of you!

I hope to make your concert at Penguicon man. :) Its been awhile since I got out to a concert of any kind. I just need to look up when it is.

Sun, Apr. 21st, 2013 01:19 am (UTC)

My intel says Saturday at 1:00 pm. Two hour slot, so I should be singing for at least an hour and a half.

Sun, Apr. 21st, 2013 04:52 pm (UTC)

Excellent. :) thanks for the info man, I'll do my level best to be there.

I was hoping to attend Penguicon this year. But alas, I cannot afford to go. And that's the weekend of the service auction at my UU fellowship.

On Memorial Day weekend I'll be at Oasis here in Orlando, with Seanan McGuire as writer GOH! Woot! I'm hoping she'll have time/feel well enough to drop by the filk circle.

(Side note: Wow, LJ gives me LOTS of other options for what it thinks a "Seanan" might be. Among the more interesting choices: Satan and Seance. I am amused. *grin*)

Sun, Apr. 21st, 2013 12:03 am (UTC)

We get her for Musecon in August. I am SO looking forward to it.

Sun, Apr. 21st, 2013 01:20 am (UTC)

Excellent. Say Hi to Seanan for me, and to the nice Oasis folks, who I hope to get back to some year or other.
