Miscellania

A number of people have reminded me of Rick Santorum's newest noise (although I think Mittens's is just as much "fun"), but tomorrow is Primary Day here in Michigan, so I'll go off on them in the morning.

Meantime, some stuff you might actually be interested in:
  • Could Benedict Cumberbatch be playing The Master?
  • Teach your kids -- and remind yourself -- all about critical thinking.
  • How To Train Your Dragon is continuing as a TV show.
  • Several new free Windows VSTs of interest: Latte (with both a pay and free version), HG Fortune's The Tiger (with both a pay and free version), Face Bender, and the very nice Piano One (intended as a gateway to Supreme Piano's pay products).
  • Movie: The Movie.
Whassup on your end o' things?

I think the Master thing is just a rumor, but god knows Cumberbatch has trolled the fandoms before. When asked if he was interested in being in an episode of Doctor Who, he responded, "Not an episode, no." And then refused to say anything further.

And speaking of the man who is currently warring for my affections with his television partner in not-crime, I just saw some video to go with the 'leaked' Star Trek 2 photos from last week. I am getting very geeked.

Thinking of voting for this guy tomorrow.

I would vote for Benedict Cumberbatch to be Fourth Doctor. Would be nice to have a Fourth Doctor that actually explains things instead of saying "I'll explain later.".

tcgtrf: Here in central Illinois

Enjoying spring. Both snowdrops and crocuses are in bloom.

Best of all, I'm writing again after a hiatus of nearly three years. Don't know what flipped the switch, but I came home from Capricon and sat down to work that night.

Most of the way through a new Margee and Jerry short about suspected terrorists and escape-artist kittens. Working title is "Todeskatzen", but I'm sure that that won't last.

Also have the prologue and part of the first chapter of the hard SF novel (Working title: Skyfire) that's been sitting in a mental drawer since Windycon 2010. I start by blowing up the Orion OB Association and go on from there.

Once the short story's done, if you guys want, I'll mark up that prologue and give you a link to a preview.

I recently started writing as well. Not sure what flipped the switch in my head, but I've got one short story done and am working another.

Tis weird to consider myself a "writer", but it's also amazing the worlds that are jumping into my vision. Not sure how to explain that better..just hoping other writers get the idea. :-)

*raises glass* Here's to the writers. May the worlds we see be plentiful..and clear enough for us to get them down on paper for others.

I think they leak in from alternate dimensions, personally.

If you like, I'd be happy to talk to you about my experiences (and things that get me through the successive drafts). I'm not an "A-lister", but I have published a book as well as worked for an Internet magazine.

You can talk to me at trumpinski.books@gmail.com--I promise not to bite.

Elizabeth Barrett also posts in Tom's blog a lot. She's an editor, as well as an accomplished poet.

I appreciate that and may well take you up on it. Thanks! Right now I'm just trying to sort the thoughts in my head...or at least figure how many doors I see to other worlds that should be shared.

And, try not to take it personal when I see The Book Job episode of The Simpsons. :-)

Thanks again...it's weird to be starting out in this. I have high hopes that it will be a lot of fun...hard work, but fun at the same time.

Two comments on Cumberbatch.

(1) What's wrong with John Simm? I can't imagine he's less available than Benedict.

(2) Someone commented in the article that BC is too big and would never do Who. Um... they got Timothy Dalton to play Rassilon. Hell, they got one of Britain's top recording artists into a regular role for TWO YEARS with plenty of recurrences. I think they could get Helen Mirram to play the Rani if they asked. BC may be big, but so is Who... don't assume he'd turn it down flat just because he's Hollywood now.

Survival. :-) And actually working with Crys to get her album done quicker. In addition to our new Podcast we are both doing together. Chris and Crys take over the world! We record on Thursdays and then air it on Fridays. We've also gotten some interviews that will be coming up in the next few weeks (including with the gentlemen behind "Our Fair City", a radio drama you should definitely check out). We featured "I want to be Peter Lorre" on an episode a few weeks ago. Crys wanted Domino Death (due to hunger) but Peter seemed a better song choice given the topics at hand. ;-)

Hoping things are getting better on your front.

All this in addition to a short story I should have published by the middle of the year. Here's hoping.

What kind of podcast is it? And what's the URL?

It's a weekly podcast glimpse into the lives of two artistic people who are currently unemployed. We've branched it a little into having interviews with whomever we can (Thursday will feature a friend of ours talking about Anime, after that will be the guys at Our Fair City, a fun post-apocalyptic radio drama, and after that the current chair for InConJunction, our local convention).

Topics are whatever we feel like discussing..good, bad, or otherwise. Our opinions are just that..ours, and may be different than other opinions. We really just try to have a bit of fun talking to whomever may be listening.

We love feedback. :-)

http://www.crysthewolf.com/chrisandcrystakeworld/ (If Tom doesn't mind me pimping it here, considering we do dote on him in the cast).

Thanks for the question. :-)

The bum shoulder (details at my LJ) is healing, though not optimally.

Meanwhile, the VA Senate race has a new entrant, "a proud Independent” who promises "real world experience, a unique point of view, and limitless energy.”

I like the idea of BC as the Master, he'd be a good foil for Matt Smith - just as John Simm was for David Tennant. Why not a new Master for each new Doctor?

ooo! New How to Train Your Dragon!! I'd heard there was a movie coming out next year (still keeping my fingers crossed on that), and I wonder how well they'd be able to keep up the quality in a weekly series. Time will tell...

'Round here, I'm recovering from FarPoint, dealing with a nasty cold and gearing up for StellarCon this weekend.

Whee!

Trying to get finished re-lettering and touching up the Cream & Sugar TPB so I can send it to printers before my four-cons-in-five-weeks jag. Distractions like last week's hacking of all the PHP pages on my main web domain and other things have slowed that down, and deadline pressure is, well, pressing...
