As mentioned, the entire show last night was devoted to a Special Comment on health care. The five segments, top to bottom, are the video links, but just watch the first and the rest will auto-load. Here's the transcript. The real conversation is going on in the previous thread, however.

Special Comment Tonight By Teh Keith

The entire show, going on as I write this, is a Special Comment about the whole health care brouhaha. Daily Kos has a live-blogging thread. I'll have the video and transcript links as soon as they're available.

ETA: I put up a separate thread for the links. As [info]trav13369 pointed out, this was kinda dumb. :) Here's the entire show. The five segments, top to bottom, are the video links, but just watch the first and the rest will auto-load. Here's the transcript.

Okay, I was wrong. Somebody does indeed have something trenchant to say about Joe Wilson. Hang on to your hats, gang -- Teh Keith is on fire.

Along the same lines, you really have to see this week's Tom Tomorrow.

Not only is it a glorious smackdown, but it's the first time I can recall a television personality referring to a sitting governor as an "asshat".

"As God Is My Witness...."

Okay, one last video for the evening. Remember the noise last week because Tina F- er, Sarah Palin had pardoned a turkey up in Alaska, and then answered reporters' questions in front of an automatic turkey killing machine? Well, Keith Olbermann hadn't seen the video, and he decided to watch it, live and on Countdown:

Soft On Crime

Oh my FSM, they really have nothing.

The newest line by the Republican party is that Obama is "soft on crime".

Meanwhile, some voters in Nevada have received calls from someone claiming to be from the Obama campaign who offered to help them vote over the phone, i.e., not vote at all.

And this week's New York Times Magazine is going to have an interesting article about the internals of the McCain campaign.

No. Thing.

What interesting campaign stuff have you noticed lately?

"Special Comment" Goes Nightly

Hang on to your hats. As the esteemed Mr. Olbermann puts it:
When I wrote the first Special Comment more than two years ago, I had no idea if there'd be a second one, let alone an irregular series. Flatly, I didn't know if I'd still have a job the next day - or even a country.

But as the premise evolved (and my bosses asked, shyly), I was adamant that they would never become a regularly scheduled feature.

And tonight, with Bill Hurt's line in Body Heat fresh in my mind ("Sometimes [it] comes down so heavy I feel like I should wear a hat"), I may have to break that self-imposed limitation.

If they're going to pile it on for the next two weeks, I'm going to have to throw it back.

Barring the pleasantly unforseen outbreak of common sense and restraint, the Special Comment will briefly become a nightly feature.
The very first one is on what we've been talking about here all weekend: Hatred Repackaged As "The Real America".

Fifteen more days. Keep your arms and legs inside your democracy at all times.

9/11™: A Special Comment by Teh Keith

First things first. A moment, to remember. As if we could ever forget.

Thanks.

Now.

Last week's GOP convention was pretty wild on several levels. Two of the wildest involved Keith Olbermann. Secondly, he and Chris Matthews have been demoted from anchoring future coverage, because tough manly-man über-soldier John McCain and hard-as-nails barracuda Sarah Palin said Keith and Chris were being waaaaah unfair.

Firstly, the Repubs had a "tribute" to 9/11. Which showed some of the carnage. Which we discussed here in this thread.

Which leads us to this.

Jayzus God, These Insane Sick Fearmongering Warloving Fucks

Otherwise known as the Republican Party. They just ran this at the convention, and on national TV. Sorry, and I should've said this before I posted it, I have to warn you -- it's pretty damned disgusting, and may bring back emotions you'd rather were kept down:

A version which doesn't go to Brokaw, but right to Keith O, is here.

"Terror terror terror! Fear fear fear! Brown people will come to kill you!"

That's all these evil assholes have.

I got blasted once for a post in which I said: If you support the works of evil people, if you make excuses and defenses and rationalizations for people who are deliberately hurting others, you are yourself evil. It still holds true.

The Republican Party. They'd rather win at any cost, in any way, than do the right thing. They have no idea what the right thing is.

Big fuckin' hint: This ain't it.

Mon, May. 26th, 2008, 09:31 am
... And Then There's Hillary

Oy.

If you haven't heard what made basically the entire blogosphere lose it on Friday, this diary at Daily Kos has pretty much the whole foofrah. (Except for the truly sick addendum from Faux Noise.) You can also go here for a less video-intensive page.

I am quite sure that Sen. Clinton did not consciously mean to suggest that she's hanging around hoping that Obama will be shot.

But.

As Keith Olbermann points out in his explosive Special Comment from Friday night, this is merely the latest in a long string of bizarre and dangerous statements from Clinton or her camp.

This is not the "judgment" that I want to see exercised during that mythical 3:00 a.m. call.

And, for the very first time, I waver.

If Hillary Clinton is the Dem nominee for president, I don't know for sure that I'd vote for her.

That is what you are doing to our party, Senator Clinton. Please, please stop.

Possibly THE Most Special Comment By Keith Olbermann

Holy frickin' crap. He didn't wait until the end of the show, either -- the unreal bullshit that went down today got him so worked up that... well, just watch it. You'll see.

On Michael Chertoff's gut. The last few words got cut off: "Certainly to somebody who does not, as you do now, represent that other part of the anatomy — the one through which the body disposes of what the stomach doesn’t want."

Wed, Jul. 4th, 2007, 06:19 am
Special Comment By Teh Keith

231 years ago today, a bunch of people who really had not wanted to do so found that the only way they had to get the lives they wanted was to declare themselves independent from their mother country.

They wanted to live in freedom.

There are many debates as to whether or not the United States of America is the "best" country in the history of our civilization. Often overlooked is the reason the matter is debated at all, the reason many people believe that in the first place: The notion that the people can rule themselves. No kings, princes, strongmen, warlords... no hereditary ruling class.

We The People.

Unfortunately, several years ago this entire notion was thrown into chaos by a group which believed rather differently. And they have screwed up our nation almost incalculably in six short years.

Day before yesterday was, perhaps, I can hope, the last straw.

And, last night, Mr. Olbermann let them have it:

Our country is not the best because of some mythical entitlement.

Our country is the best when we remember that we are all in this together.

Happy Independence Day, America. It's time to be free once more.

Essential viewing, gang. See, the other day, the Dems, entrusted to smack Mr. Bush for his horrific war of lies and to get our troops the hell out of Iraq... folded like a map.

Batten Down The Hatches, Here Comes Olbermann

In case you missed it, yesterday Rudy Giuliani said that “if a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001. But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.”

Tonight, Teh Keith has a Special Comment about it.

Just thought you might like to know. :)
