Some Stuff You Might Be Interested In
It's a good day to hype some friends and their work:

And what do all of these things have to do with each other, besides that I think they're great and talented folks?

New album.

You also might notice that the web site has been slightly buffed up. This is an ongoing process. If you have any problems with it, please post them in this thread, with the subject "Website Bug Report". Thanks.

Thanks for getting the new album, Will, but there's a problem in the download e-mail. I'm workin' on it -- please have patience. Ideally, it'll just take me a couple of minutes.

ETA: Bwaha! Older version of an important file. Fixed, and your album's on the way.

Fast work.

(And now, for what I always ask--is there album art? Or some in the works? *grin*)

At some point. I admit it's not a priority for the D/L stuff, but I'll come up with something soon.

No huge rush, of course. But when it comes to my MP3 collection, well, you know the line: "I prefer CDO, because the letters are in alphabetical order that way."

You can still get there: http://www.tomsmithonline.com/buystuff.htm . I'm going to incorporate all that stuff into a Music page, which is what has that link currently. On the other hand, I just noticed that, until that's done, I don't have a way to get back to the Buy Stuff page from any of the sub-pages, or back to the main page at all....

This *might* be how you intended it, but...

The text over the banner appears rather squashed together and hard to read. "music in every style... except dull" is slightly overlapped by "Online", which is in turn about 40% obscured by going off of the banner on the bottom. I am using Firefox 3.0.7 on 32 bit Ubuntu 8.10. I'll send you a screen-shot or something if you want.

Might be helpful. I'm finding out that my clever idea of using layers for that little bit of text positioning may be hosed by every single person's individual screen. And you really don't want to see what it looks like in Opera....

Speaking of your CDs, I've got a story to tell you.

My mother called me up the other day to tell me that she and my stepfather had been listening to a CD that she thought would be totally to my taste. But she couldn't remember the name of it. (She's not great with names)

So she put him on the phone, and I asked him what CDs they were.

It was your "Debasement Tapes".

Which I gave to my stepfather for Christmas, at his specific request...

I reminded him of this, and there was much *headdesk*-ing.

They are right about my taste in music though.

(You'll have this new CD available @ Penguicon, right?)

Hehe, soon as I get money I'll grab the new album. I have a question though! Do you have any intention of making LHoE into a dead tree format? (And hell, do you need an artist? I'm looking for a project :D )

Right now I'm an artist who needs scripts. I have published credits with Shanda Panda Fantasy Arts, and Furnation, but nothing big. We can work something out between bartering and copies to sell, if you don't have free flowing cash *chuckles* I -like- the barter system.

I just finished listening to SoC2 and it's great! Thanks for everything you've done! Is there any chance the Domino Death and Who Let Him In Here? cassettes will be released in downloadable format? I just realized those are the only two Tom Smith albums I don't have yet. (Yes, I know the songs were done on other albums, but I'd like a complete collection.)

I found something out about the album you may want to know about. The file names are numbered, but you don't have the track number in the IDE. (I know because when I moved the album to my media player it ordered the songs alphabetically by name instead of by track number.)

Tom, mind if I have a question about filk albums in general (not just yours). I've noticed that when an album is named for a song in that album, that song tends to be near the end. For example Bill Roper's "Falling Toward Orion" is track 14 of 15. Why is that? Shouldn't the album's title song be close to the start of the album, if not the first track on the album?

Honestly, I know of no hard and fast rule. I name my albums thematically, mostly. "Domino Death" seemed to be the right name for that one, as did "And They Say I've Got Talent", but the rest are not named after any particular song. Dunno.

The download links for SF04 - Barbie Doll and Zombie Pirates In Love appear to be slightly busted. When I run my mouse over them they're pointing to file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Owner/My Documents/My Webs/TSO Current/freestuff/oddio/SF04_Barbie_Doll.mp3
and
file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Owner/My Documents/My Webs/TSO Current/freestuff/oddio/Zombie_Pirates_In_Love_lo.mp3

Needless to say they ain't on my computer and that directory doesn't even exist here.

I'll be ordering the new album come payday, but was hoping for these to tide me over.

I know this post is over 10 days old now, but I hope you can answer a question related to your new album. I really liked the song about Accidental Centaurs. So I went to the site to read it. What happened? It looks like it stopped half way in the story line and we're now having flashbacks (and incomplete flashbacks at that). Did the artist loose interest or became too busy? Why would he want a song about his webcomic done if the webcomic in question is fading away? I like the comic and would hate to see it end before the story is over.

Glad I came back to check on this thread. :) John stopped the strip because of time considerations awhile back, but he very recently got a plot bunny and started working on a short story, is all. The song was commissioned a few years ago, when it was right in the middle of things, and he used it as a promotional bonus for signing up as a sponsor (which Anthrozine also did with their song). I'd like him to start doing it full time again as well, if it ever works out for him.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize how much time has passed since SoC 1. I hope it will work out for him. Maybe the renewed interest in the strip the song generated will help.
