The bloody woman has a voice like a buzz saw. I'd rather pleasure m'self with a cheesegrater.
Mind you, as a UK resident my opinion is moot, and shall be mute, too.

I heard on NPR where some Californian speech expert says she sounds like anyone caught out in really cold weather with a plugged up nose, saying (nasally) "It sure is cold out here, by golly."

Indeed. Try asking over on the Weakly Standard site where Billy Kristol's assuring readers that of course, McCain can catch up?

He started posting back in January. Kos had to put in an editorial note that, yes, it was indeed Keith. And he almost always gives the dKos community a preview of any Special Comment. Like this one. :)

I actually got into an online argument with someone who thought she was great. Her arguments were:

"Have you even read her record? She's done phenomenal things."

Turned out she knew the bullet points, but none of the details.

"Did you know that 38 of our presidents were governors?"

This was more than double the actual number, but irrelevant, since there's no pattern dictating that experience of any sort makes one a good president. Not to mention that McCain never governed anything...

GWB was governor of Texas before he was President. This does not incline one to confidence in the underlying assumption!

Well, if she was my neighbor I'd probably be on cool but friendly terms with her. That doesn't mean I'd vote for her, just that I prefer to get along with people when I'm around them.

Statement from California NOW:

"A member and officer of the Los Angeles NOW chapter, Shelly Mandell, recently introduced Governor Sarah Palin at an event in Carson, California. Ms. Mandell was speaking as an individual and was not authorized to represent NOW, the NOW PAC or LA NOW in any capacity in connection with a federal candidate endorsement. As NOW President Kim Gandy said upon Palin’s selection, 'Not every woman supports women's rights.'

"The use of Shelly Mandell’s Los Angeles NOW title was apparently intended to mislead the public, and indeed has resulted in local television outlets and internet reports misstating that LA NOW has 'endorsed' Sarah Palin or that she has a record of supporting women’s rights. This in fact is not the case.

"As President of California NOW and as a member and officer of Los Angeles NOW, I can assure you that there is no local or state affiliate of NOW, including LA NOW, which endorses or supports the McCain/Palin ticket."

Somehow, this is not surprising. They've stolen music, how would they have a problem with faking an endorsement?

i'm baffled. supporting someone *just because* they're a woman?
that's like the whole "stand behind your president even when he's committing war crimes" mentality.
no.

It isn't a crime because he's keeping us safe. And besides, when the president does it, it's legal.

I've flat out told "my other half" (well, he IS the other half of the posts on this name) "If I'm ever that wrong about anything, please STOP ME!!!"

My mother's brother is. He sent out a link to a "questionnaire" and at the end of his letter he said, "I'm voting for Sarah and rooting for the chicken bone." Unless I missed something, chicken bone is a reference to someone choking to death on one. The guy was in the navy and still says, "We have never had a good Navy president." Great logic. I hope I don't have many of his genes.

I assume he's not counting Franklin Roosevelt, who was Secretary of the Navy. But it sounds like he'd hate Roosevelt for his "socialist" policies.

Let's try that again, with a touch more coherence:

I've actually seen it suggested somewhere, possibly even in Tom's blog, that Republicans now select running mates that make you afraid to remove them from power.

Bush the Elder? J. Danforth Quayle.
Bush the Younger? Dick Cheney.

To quote Dr. Strangelove, "Deterrence is the art of producing in the mind of the enemy the fear to attack."

I doubt you'll find many supporters for her among your audience. I'm probably one of your more "conservative" fans, and I consider myself to be a moderate who leans conservative on some issues and liberal on others. When he initially selected her I started reading about her and saw a mixed bag. "Okay, I can agree with her on that. That sucks. That sucks. Not bad there. Oh hell no."

Then she started talking. The migraine salute quickly followed.

And no, that's not a comment about the quality of her speaking voice.

Reminds me of a joke I heard....

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.

Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.'

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle.'

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain:

'Well, you know she didn't get up there by herself... She doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she is up there, and you just have to wonder what kind of dumb-ass put her up there to begin with.

I happened to watch a thing with Anderson Cooper on CNN a day or so after the VP debates, interviewing Alaskan hockey Moms after they watched the debates. And most of these women were all just enthusiastically behind Palin like it was some kind of girls' night out. One of them said "She's like me!"

And I said promptly: "Yeah, and I wouldn't elect you to office either, lady."

This whole Joe Six-Pack thing is crap - you do NOT elect just anyone to the Presidency. Yes this is a country where anyone can grow up to be president - that's a measure of freedom and potential, because you never know what you're gonna get with a human being as they mature. We WANT someone smart and capable and dedicated to hold the position, not a hockey mom and not, as Dubya has been described, some who 'you could sit around and drink beers with"!! And certainly not bigoted, insane, stupid, warmongering criminals. And we've alreayd had 8 years of THAT.

I didn't really know what to think about Sarah Palin when she was first named as the Republican V.P. pick. I'd only heard her name in passing once as a potential nod but that was it. I thought it made the whole experience argument a non-issue considering she had less than Obama.

Then I started to find things out about what she thought. Her charging rape victims for the rape kit test, her lobbying for the bridge to nowhere and even taking the money before she turned against the idea. Everything I heard made me question her qualifications more and more.

The constant use of the word maverick and joe-sixpack are getting on my nerves too.

My mother is a devoted palin fan. I am convinced it is just because she is female, given she has No concept of real feminism. I loved the pic I saw that had Palin bending over and talking to her daughter saying something along the lines of "Go play dear, mommy is busy taking away your rights as a woman"
