Better, stronger, faster

Just a quick update. The repair surgery is today, most likely early afternoon. Everything proceeds after that, so I really can't tell you anything more right now. Ideally everything will go well and I'll give you an update tomorrow (I do wish they wouldn't give you the "Oh by the way, you may die from anesthesia" riff). Those of you who have my cell phone number, please do not call tonight or tomorrow. I promise I will get to you! I just can't be answering the phone all the time. Lots of medical techs coming through and the like.

I love you all so much. Thank you again, more than I really can say.

Let's put it this way: you'll get a song out of this one.

Good luck! Did you find out if adamantium infusions are an option, as long as they're in there?

If they are, they would probably even be covered by R&D!

You'll call me when you can I know... just please wait until I'm back from Duck so that I'll be able to speak intelligently.

*Presses and crosses various hand parts for good luck.*

They gotta give you the spiel; it's medical CYA, even if you're an anaesthesiologist receiving it. But you knew that.

Get well soon and 100%!

Take care of Tom. The rest will wait.

Good luck, Tom! You'll do fine. These surgeries are routine to the team doing them, even if they aren't to you.

Here's to "ideally"!

And I was six the last time I needed general anaesthesia, so I don't know how long the speech has been SOP, but in this litigious age are you really surprised they have to do it? If there's even the most minuscule risk the worst could happen, they have to inform you nowadays.

khaosworks has summed it up best, I believe. I remember "Really Sick Note," and heck, that didn't involve a hospital, or at least not in the telling of the tale.

Just remember, when you're under anesthesia: if someone asks you if you are a god, you say YES.

And the last thing you do before you go under should be to point randomly and go, "Oooh, lookee the leprechauns..."

(Learned that one from the artist formerly known as Heather)

Rest well, best witches!

I realized the same thing yesterday. In reference to the last lines of the song, today is someday. :)

Good luck Tom!

sylverwolfe sent me a message last night to tell me what had happened. I hope the surgery goes well and you recover quickly.

Tom Smith Disease is presently untreatable, but a damaged leg is something else again :-)

The anaesthesia stuff is basic CYA--complications are possible but very unlikely. It's probably safer than the drive to the hospital.

But when they tell you not to eat or drink for X hours before the surgery--follow that advice. I was told that's what usually causes trouble with anaesthesia.

FWIW I've been under twice, and aside from spending most of the next day falling asleep in the middle of talking to people, experienced no ill effects.

Last two times it happened to me (needing anaesthesia) I apparently would stop in mid sentence (once in mid word) and pick up where I left off anywhere from fifteen minutes to four hours later.

Other than that, I was fine.
