Weather
A long thin line of storms beat up Minnesota and Wisconsin, has just pummeled Chicago and St. Louis, and it's heading across Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky like a squeegee. Tornado watches all over the place. Hunker down, mmkay? And sound off when it's past.

ETA: Aaaaaand the tornado watch is over. Looks as if there's still a buttload o' rain coming, though -- a straight line of storms coming up from Indy right over Ann Arbor, moving NNE faster than it's moving East. So I'm gonna power down once more, and I'll catch you all tomorrow.

I keep waiting for it to hit Erie PA (where I'm at) but the storms all either break up before they get here, or pass to the south and north. Just got some hot stickiness here.

Will do, and thanks for the heads up.

Good night for Pizza, and subjecting the girlfriend to "Life on Mars". :-) As long as the power stays on this weekend, too.

Two down, I'm thinking one more to go, and we're fine. What literally shook our subdivision house in Indy doesn't budge this old farmhouse in northwest Indiana.

Florida's hurricanes are no joy either. Drove through one of them, and the aftermath of another one.

Advice: go to Big Lots and get the heartiest canned soup and stews you can find. If you have a propane barbecue grill, fill the tank and keep the whole works safe; you can become a neighborhood hero by cooking food. Get a 5 gallon bottle of water and see if you can find a hand pump for it.

I recommend the Dolphin brand of hand pump. We got ours at Whole Foods, so any sort of health/organic food place should be a good place to look.

Drat. We have picnic with Delia's pre-school tomorrow (plus Scott is both sick and scheduled to work tomorrow).

I'm sure we'll be fine but the picnic may be a lot less fun than expected.

It was windy as heck here riding my motorcycle to/from work but so far very little rain except in the middle of the day when I decided to forgo putting on my rain pants before riding to lunch. *rolls eyes*

So far nothing but wind but it's the Midwest - wait 5 minutes. ;-)

We had a lot of wind here. Nothing more damaging than fallen twigs. Oh and a freight train had a spill. It wasn't toxic but it did mean slow going that extended my train commute by about half an hour. An end to a stressful day. But I still have my RPG session tonight. I'm almost scared to go. Part of me wants to cancel and go to bed right now. But I have to work tomorrow too (telecommute this time).

The tallow spill along the Metra Geneva line? I live 1/2 block north of it, and I'm really not looking forward to the smell in a day or so ...

I'm just NE of Michigan (halfway between Detroit and Toronto), and we're probably going to get clobbered overnight; at least that's what Environment Canada is saying. No thunderstorm/severe weather watches yet, though. Thunderstorms at night are quite normal for this area at this time of year... Welcome to summer in Carolinian Canada. Thanks for the heads-up, though.

By the time it reaches the Jersey Shore, that line of strong storms will have piddled itself away into a few scattered showers. Even storm fronts that make it across Pennsylvania start to break up as they get near the coastline. And for some reason, if a line of storms does manage to stay heavy, it almost always splits here, and all the severe weather passes to the south or north of me. But I like thunderstorms!

We got heavy thunderstorms for about a half hour, and that was all. It continued to sprinkle, but nothing bad. The tornado warnings were south of us. The wind is still blowing rather hard

The dog was outside when it started raining, poor thing.

Hopefully we'll have mostly dry weather tomorrow, since we're cleaning the pool. Hooray, pool!

When the radio got through the storm and tornado watches and warnings and said "we now return to regular programing" my reaction was that I thought the watches and warnings had become the regular programing.
Most of the fields around here contain ponds and lakes that were not there a couple of weeks ago.
What do you want to bet that in 2 months we will have a drought?

*So* not looking forward to dancing tomorrow with Three Left Feet at the Maryland Faerie Festival . The forecast high is 97, with a heat index of 105.

1:30 in the afternoon. In a long skirt & laced bodice. Dancing. As Pavel Chekhov put it, "Oh yes, I'll live -- but I von't enjoy it!"

Power was out last night from about 6:45 to 10. Fortunately I was at my game and only had to reset the clocks when I got home. But now I have to telecommute to work.
