Robert Asprin Dies
Terrible, terrible news. Robert Lynn Asprin, author of the Myth Adventures books and the Phule's War series and co-creator of Thieves' World and the Dark Horde which became the Dorsai Irregulars....

Bob is dead.

Passed away this morning, very suddenly. I have no details yet. When I do, I'll put them here. My, all of our, sympathies and condolences go to his family and friends.

He was going to be GOH at MarCon this weekend. I was going to introduce [info]huskiebear's niece to him, 'cause she's a big MythAdventures fan. Jodi Lynn Nye and Bill Fawcett have already cancelled because of this, and the con should be... interesting.

I wanted to see my friend this weekend. Now that chance is lost.

I love you all. I'm just saying it, so it gets said, y'know?

Thank you for telling us Tom.

The Myth series is an old friend to me and I think I'm going to be spending time rereading it to catch up with Skeeve and the others. I never got to meet Mr. Asprin but I loved his work and his humor had a way of shining through. I could just see him cackling as he wrote some of the sequences in that series. It showed us his heart and I don't think there's a higher compliment that can be given to a writer.

We all love you too Tom.

Mr. Asprin's family will be in my prayers tonight.

Shalom sir and may your soul find peace.

Jesus this is awful. He was filking with us and sharing his Tully at Dragon*Con all of 9 months ago. He was part of the best filk circle I ever sat in, with you and Moonwulf and Luke and Tony and many others, and a room full of appreciative listeners. It was such a tremendous thrill to have gotten to meet and sing with him. Can't believe it. Love you too, Tom.

Fare-thee-well, Yang. May you find a place where the Dew always flows as freely as the song, and the laughter does not cease.

*hugs Tom and anyone else*

Oh, no.

I haven't seen Bob for many years, but I used to run into him fairly often back in the 80s. He's on one of the best-of-Worldcon filk tapes from that period, but I don't know of any other published recordings of him singing his own songs. That's a great pity all by itself.

And I've always been more than a little jazzed that he borrowed my guitar to do the song that ended up on the tape.

I kept hoping our paths would cross again some day...

Let's all hold our friends a little closer this weekend, no matter which con (or none) we're at.

Edited to fix typo.

I loved reading Mr. Asprin's books. I knew he organized the Dorsai Irregulars; I never knew he filked, though. I had always wanted to meet him.

Thank you for posting this. My condolences to his family and his friends.

Damn....just damn.

When I was a freshman in HS, having just finished reading a book a friend loaned me called "Elfstones of Shannhara", I was looking in the school library for fantasy novels. A display had "Another fine myth" on it, so I picked it up.

and started buying all the novels I could after that...and worried when it went on hiatus, and have tried getting back into it since, but just haven't had time. Will have to make time.

And, Tom, we all love you, too. Tis part of why many of us cherish the time we get to hang out, as friends.

Damn, damn, damn. I'm so sorry to hear this -- while I never knew him well, I've shared a few filks and a few SCA events with him. My sympathy to his friends and family.

Love you too, Tom.
