Less Than Art, Ten Years Later
Thanks to [info]ohiblather for the notice that Ookla the Mok has released a tenth-anniversary edition of their fantastic debut album Less Than Art. Remixed to within an inch of its life -- Rand played us some of the tracks a few months ago at FKO, and it's frickin' great. If you don't have this album, and especially if for some reason you haven't heard Ookla before -- GO GET IT NOW. If you do have this album, it's even better -- GO GET IT NOW.

This CD has been sold out for 2 years now (if not more, 2 years ago is when I tried to buy it and it was already sold out), so I have not been able to get a copy yet. I will be seeing Ookla when they are at Dragon*Con this year, so I can get the CD from them there.

Ummm... I have it on the very best authority, i.e., Adam English, that OTM will not be at Dragon*Con this year. Just so's ya know.

Oh, I thought they were one of the announced artists for this year's Dragon*Con. I guess that I need to buy the CD online then.

I recommended even for people that do have the first one. Not only is there two new songs but every song has been remixed/mastered and from what I heard a few months back it's sounds fantastic. I can't wait to get my copy.

Got a copy at Conterpoint from Kathy Sands (who was selling it for Rand and DOES have stock). Just heard it today. Sounded good. I don't have the old version to compare against, but I like the album and will definately look at their albums in the future.

Just out of curiosity, did they do a remix of "Arthur Curry"? It's my favorite geeky song from them, but it's only available on download, and damn it, the terrific lyrics are almost inaudible over the music and backup vocalists.

One of the big, big things they did was remix everything with the specific intention of everything being heard better. The CD Baby page has previews of all the songs so you can hear. (They also have a different arrangement of "Arthur Curry" they do these days as a bonus track.) The ones that'll really kick your ass is "Dollar Fifty Movies", which has some pitch correction and a much less muddy mix, and "Still Can't Buy Me Love", which... oh, trust me, just go listen. :)

... and how could I forget? You simply will not believe the new mix of "Bride of Wolfman".

You can listen to the full second version of Arthur Curry on their MySpace page.

Thanks much for the link, Tom, I've already ordered my copy (I have the original and love it) and I'll make sure to update my Aquaman page with the news.
