Fri, Sep. 6th, 2013, 06:00 pm Sorry, Sorry, I'm Back
Between SHI (shitty hotel internet) and just So Damn Much Happening before and after DragonCon, I haven't updated LJ/DW in about two weeks. Sorry, gang. I is back, and with news.
DragonCon was moderately financially successful and amazingly fun. I had dinner at the Banquet with the Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, and TV's Spartacus, Liam McIntyre (and his gorgeous fiance Erin). My Banquet set went pretty well, as did my other FIVE sets. Busy busy busy. Saw friends, saw great costumes, did NOT see anywhere near as many of the great costumes as I wanted to. Briefly met Rob Paulsen, which was wonderful. So, many thanks to Pat Henry, Regina Kelly, Robby Hilliard, Chip Brazell, Walt, and everybody else who helped make D*Con good this year.
During that weekend, the 2015 WorldCon bid was won by Spokane, WA. And now it can be told: I'm their Music Guest of Honor! I'm incredibly flattered and humbled and WOW I must be doing something right. Anyway, Sasquan in late August 2015 -- be there!
I will be uploading new noise very soon. Everybody who wondered where the heck the TomBoat album was? I have it.
Another new album of stuff you mostly haven't heard before? I have it.
Sets from this year's DragonCon, to be put up pay-what-you-want? I have 'em.
Much more info on those over the next few days. I predict a LOT of uploading this weekend, along with staggeringly good barbecue to get me through.
Doing good. Having everything link up properly for a project is being fun. Everything is lined up, and pending everything going smoothly on Monday, it will be completed. (I will be posting details about it next week.)
I did find out about two filk reprints of a OCP tapes @ Worldcon, which was great. One is the same version, one is updated and not identical. (I will be posting that information as a signal boost in the next few days.)
I do look forward to getting all of your new downloads.
Yay! I am especially jacked for the success of your project because I've had a few too many rough patches on some of mine lately, but STILL managed to get past them all and finish stuff. And so for you: Go! Go! Go!
Non filk this time, but one item on my summer to do list is completing on Monday. Then I can get the 2 items I owe people from Conterpoint done. (2 interfilk items that I have to check with interfilk as whom is the ones owed. (Recordings I need to split.)
I have been going through some ridiculous ups and downs with a heating/cooling installation in my condo but there are signs that it might all turn out wonderfully. I'm staying hopeful and regularly checking my magic 8 ball. :)
Glad to know things are going OK. One of my friends went to GenCon and he reported vendors did better than expected. He said it's because people are treating big conventions like it as their summer vacation instead of a more traditional vacation. I don't know if it's true, but if it is there's no reason the same logic can't apply to DragonCon.
Congrats about being GoH and I look forward to your uploads.
For myself, work has been very busy lately. Plus I had to attend 3 FOUR HOUR long product demonstrations so that's a work day and a half that could have been spent getting things done. The last one was a pain because they went too fast and every time I tried to ask them to slow down I got interrupted before I could get the first word out. And on top of that last Friday (before Labor Day weekend) my train station shut down at 5pm for two and a half hours due to a small storm. Metra says they have to follow Union Pacific's rules and I guess they changed them this year. I'm worried about what will happen this winter.
The new kitty, Jo-Jo, is slowly adapting to her new home. There's still issues with her getting along with my established cats. The established cats accept her, but Jo-Jo doesn't want to get close to them. Pepi seems to like Jo-Jo and keeps trying to get close. I don't know if she just wants to play and be friends or is getting a kick out of pushing Jo-Jo's buttons. At least Jo-Jo is bonding with me and enjoys it when we hang out together.
I'm doing more with my pickling hobby. I'll be off to the local farmers market for some heirloom tomatoes to pickle. Tom, you've been to Musecon do you think they'd be interested in a panel about making refrigerator pickles and if such a topic can take up an entire time slot?
Someone at DragonCon told me pre-reg was up 22% from last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they hit 70K official. Kevin Dockery said he estimated the parade crowd to be about 100K. The big cons are becoming many peoples' Big Events for the year.
I think the pickling panel would be a marvelous idea! Seriously, I'd definitely run that past MuseCon.
Sorry for meeting annoyance, kitty angst, and transit troubles. It's the little things that add up to stress.
Oh and something else just added to the stress. My home AC is out of coolant again (I got it filled up earlier this year) and I think the compressor is shot. I was outside an hour ago and saw lots of frost on the pipe going from the home to the external unit. And it's going to be in the mid-90s later this week. I have to decide if I'm going to tough it out or see if I can get a temporary fix (that will probably cost several hundred dollars) or see if I need something replaced that will likely cost more money but take care of the problem once and for all. Between that and getting royally ripped off by a vent cleaning company (only thing they really cleaned was my bank account), I'm going to have to call this the Year of Lost Money.
OT I just sent the suggestion to Musecon and the new kitty is behind the monitor. She loves me but can't get used to hanging out with other kitties. (She was adopted as a single cat at 8 weeks.)
Good to hear from you. I was getting concerned but figured things were just REALLY FREAKING BUSY. Many congratulations on your GOH slot. Excellent. As I tweeted Squeeee, Filk recognition. You and Leslie and the Suttons. Great. Peace, Bill
Thanks much! And, yeah, sorry. The week and a half up to Dragon were intense, and it was intense during the con, and bluntly it's a lot easier to update to FB with their iOS app. Especially with SHI. ;)
