Sorry, Sorry, I'm Back

Between SHI (shitty hotel internet) and just So Damn Much Happening before and after DragonCon, I haven't updated LJ/DW in about two weeks. Sorry, gang. I is back, and with news.
  • DragonCon was moderately financially successful and amazingly fun. I had dinner at the Banquet with the Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, and TV's Spartacus, Liam McIntyre (and his gorgeous fiance Erin). My Banquet set went pretty well, as did my other FIVE sets. Busy busy busy. Saw friends, saw great costumes, did NOT see anywhere near as many of the great costumes as I wanted to. Briefly met Rob Paulsen, which was wonderful. So, many thanks to Pat Henry, Regina Kelly, Robby Hilliard, Chip Brazell, Walt, and everybody else who helped make D*Con good this year.
  • During that weekend, the 2015 WorldCon bid was won by Spokane, WA. And now it can be told: I'm their Music Guest of Honor! I'm incredibly flattered and humbled and WOW I must be doing something right. Anyway, Sasquan in late August 2015 -- be there!
  • I will be uploading new noise very soon. Everybody who wondered where the heck the TomBoat album was? I have it.
  • Another new album of stuff you mostly haven't heard before? I have it.
  • Sets from this year's DragonCon, to be put up pay-what-you-want? I have 'em.
Much more info on those over the next few days. I predict a LOT of uploading this weekend, along with staggeringly good barbecue to get me through.

And how are you doing?

I've had better days.

Fri, Sep. 6th, 2013 10:44 pm (UTC)

Yeah. That is tremendously sad. At least she had the chance to say goodbye, and we had a bit of a chance to say goodbye to her.

Fri, Sep. 6th, 2013 10:37 pm (UTC)

Busy. Exhausted. Dealing with family drama. Getting lots done at work.

Actively avoiding the dishes...

Headed quite a ways south for the weekend, which should be good and mostly relaxing for me.

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:30 am (UTC)

Hugs. Hope the southward trip is helping.

Went to my first ever DragonCon (nope, didn't get to see you, was in the Dealer's room the whole time) - Amazing, and I sold lots of dragons!!

Going to MDRF this weekend, and a bunch of your songs came up on my playlist on the drive.

Good to see you back on LJ! I've missed ya.

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:30 am (UTC)

Good to be back. Yay for sales! And, I never got to the dealer's room or art show. Murfle. But at least it was because I was busy in good ways.

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 02:07 am (UTC)

I expect a lot of folks never made it to the dealer's area, given it was in a new location.

I have a question for you (one I could probably answer myself by going to your site, but still...): do you have any Doctor Who filk?

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:35 pm (UTC)

"An Ecclesiastes For Rose" on iTom 2.0 is the only one I can think of right now (about the transition from 9 to 10).

Tue, Sep. 10th, 2013 01:37 am (UTC)

Thanks! Not sure that I have that CD, will have to check my collection.

Sat, Sep. 7th, 2013 01:02 am (UTC)

Spokane? Worldcon? I am so there! See you in two years, Tom!

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:29 am (UTC)

With bells on, pal!

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:42 am (UTC)

Any chance my song will be done by then? My friends keep asking about it.

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:35 pm (UTC)

Yep. It WILL be done, well before then.

Sat, Sep. 7th, 2013 02:16 am (UTC)

Doing good. Having everything link up properly for a project is being fun. Everything is lined up, and pending everything going smoothly on Monday, it will be completed. (I will be posting details about it next week.)

I did find out about two filk reprints of a OCP tapes @ Worldcon, which was great. One is the same version, one is updated and not identical. (I will be posting that information as a signal boost in the next few days.)

I do look forward to getting all of your new downloads.

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:28 am (UTC)

Yay! I am especially jacked for the success of your project because I've had a few too many rough patches on some of mine lately, but STILL managed to get past them all and finish stuff. And so for you: Go! Go! Go!

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 03:51 am (UTC)

Non filk this time, but one item on my summer to do list is completing on Monday. Then I can get the 2 items I owe people from Conterpoint done. (2 interfilk items that I have to check with interfilk as whom is the ones owed. (Recordings I need to split.)

Sat, Sep. 7th, 2013 08:59 am (UTC)

I saw the Sasquan flyers and squee'd(actually, I heard you were on them first)--I'll be see you in Spokane . . .

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:29 am (UTC)

Yep -- they asked awhile back, and of course I was not allowed to say a thing....

Sat, Sep. 7th, 2013 11:31 am (UTC)

Never been to a worldcon yet.... Hmmmm....

I have been going through some ridiculous ups and downs with a heating/cooling installation in my condo but there are signs that it might all turn out wonderfully. I'm staying hopeful and regularly checking my magic 8 ball. :)

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:27 am (UTC)

Good luck on the heating/cooling. (Gotta get a new thermostat for my place -- the AC works, but all too well....)

Sat, Sep. 7th, 2013 02:10 pm (UTC)

Glad to know things are going OK. One of my friends went to GenCon and he reported vendors did better than expected. He said it's because people are treating big conventions like it as their summer vacation instead of a more traditional vacation. I don't know if it's true, but if it is there's no reason the same logic can't apply to DragonCon.

Congrats about being GoH and I look forward to your uploads.

For myself, work has been very busy lately. Plus I had to attend 3 FOUR HOUR long product demonstrations so that's a work day and a half that could have been spent getting things done. The last one was a pain because they went too fast and every time I tried to ask them to slow down I got interrupted before I could get the first word out. And on top of that last Friday (before Labor Day weekend) my train station shut down at 5pm for two and a half hours due to a small storm. Metra says they have to follow Union Pacific's rules and I guess they changed them this year. I'm worried about what will happen this winter.

The new kitty, Jo-Jo, is slowly adapting to her new home. There's still issues with her getting along with my established cats. The established cats accept her, but Jo-Jo doesn't want to get close to them. Pepi seems to like Jo-Jo and keeps trying to get close. I don't know if she just wants to play and be friends or is getting a kick out of pushing Jo-Jo's buttons. At least Jo-Jo is bonding with me and enjoys it when we hang out together.

I'm doing more with my pickling hobby. I'll be off to the local farmers market for some heirloom tomatoes to pickle. Tom, you've been to Musecon do you think they'd be interested in a panel about making refrigerator pickles and if such a topic can take up an entire time slot?

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:25 am (UTC)

Someone at DragonCon told me pre-reg was up 22% from last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they hit 70K official. Kevin Dockery said he estimated the parade crowd to be about 100K. The big cons are becoming many peoples' Big Events for the year.

I think the pickling panel would be a marvelous idea! Seriously, I'd definitely run that past MuseCon.

Sorry for meeting annoyance, kitty angst, and transit troubles. It's the little things that add up to stress.

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 03:40 am (UTC)

Oh and something else just added to the stress. My home AC is out of coolant again (I got it filled up earlier this year) and I think the compressor is shot. I was outside an hour ago and saw lots of frost on the pipe going from the home to the external unit. And it's going to be in the mid-90s later this week. I have to decide if I'm going to tough it out or see if I can get a temporary fix (that will probably cost several hundred dollars) or see if I need something replaced that will likely cost more money but take care of the problem once and for all. Between that and getting royally ripped off by a vent cleaning company (only thing they really cleaned was my bank account), I'm going to have to call this the Year of Lost Money.

OT I just sent the suggestion to Musecon and the new kitty is behind the monitor. She loves me but can't get used to hanging out with other kitties. (She was adopted as a single cat at 8 weeks.)

Sat, Sep. 7th, 2013 03:48 pm (UTC)

Good to hear from you. I was getting concerned but figured things were just REALLY FREAKING BUSY. Many congratulations on your GOH slot. Excellent. As I tweeted Squeeee, Filk recognition. You and Leslie and the Suttons. Great. Peace, Bill

Sun, Sep. 8th, 2013 12:27 am (UTC)

Thanks much! And, yeah, sorry. The week and a half up to Dragon were intense, and it was intense during the con, and bluntly it's a lot easier to update to FB with their iOS app. Especially with SHI. ;)
