The current Humble Bundle
is a jaw-droppingly cool collection of eBooks by such luminaries as Neil Gaiman & Dave McKean, Cory Doctorow, Randall Munroe, and Wil Wheaton. The deluxe edition of The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, Shards of Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold....
The Humble Weekly Sale
that just started is also superb: There's a famous series of old, old, old-school RPGs set in a world called Avernum. They're not awfully expensive, but pricey enough that, in these days of damn near cinematic experiences, they may not seem very enticing. Well, now you can get them STUPID CHEAP. Literally, right now the average to get all of 'em and
unlock the two extra games is $3.93. So, kick in four bucks, get EIGHT adventure games for PC, Mac, or Linux.
Any other cool online deals we should know about (besides, of course, the current 5th anniversary sale at the Apple App Store, Giveaway Of The Day
, and Kindle Buffet
)?This entry was originally posted at http://filkertom.dreamwidth.org/1631246.html. You may comment there or here, although LJ tends to have a livelier conversation at this time.

I don't have a tablet or ereader, how easy is it to read books on a computer monitor?
I'm also considering getting a tablet if I can find a good one at a reasonable price (yes, I'm giving exact qualifications lol). What's a good non-apple product?

I'm not so sure. The Galaxy Tab 2 is $30 cheaper. The CPU is not as powerful but it has a back mounted camera plus micro SD storage (neither of which Nexus has). But I will say the Nexus does have a quad core and a higher resolution. Wirecutter also seems to be a bit out of date.
ETA If the Nexus had a back mounted camera I would buy one RIGHT NOW. I saw some good deals on NewEgg. I want to be able to take video with my tablet and that's a deal breaker. :(Edited at 2013-07-12 03:16 am (UTC)

Apparently a new generation of N7 is coming out by the end of the month, which includes a back-facing camera...

LJ ate my first response. Let me try again. I googled about the N72 and it looks good. If the rumors are true, they made a sale. ... If I can find a place that sells it.

Pretty easy, actually. First, they're available in multiple formats -- there are several readers for EPUB and MOBI, and you might have heard of one or two for the obscure PDF format.
The best place I have seen for slightly-older-tech tablets is 1SaleADay.com
and its sister site Ben's Outlet
. Otherwise, I'd just tool down to CostCo and get a Samsung Galaxy from there. I think the latest version is 3 or 4, and they run on Android. Or the Google Nexus scifantasy

I don't have a tablet or e-reader either, but I got Calibre for reading e-books on the computer because people kept giving tem to me. It's a nice interface and easy to work with.

Woot.com is a discount site with daily deals.
Shirt.woot.com is phenomenally good for t-shirts. Shirts are $12 on the first day, $15 till they need to reprint, then $18, and the art is in a wide variety of styles. I've found that the shirts hold up well.

Alas, I already own 5/6 of the books being offered. Admittedly, one I only have in dead-tree edition.

Kindle Buffet looks cool. Thanks Tom
