Okay, Now I Don't Even WANT To See MAN OF STEEL
Just... just look at this
. Besides the context, the damn costume doesn't look jack shit
like Superman's.This entry was originally posted at http://filkertom.dreamwidth.org/1630435.html. You may comment there or here, although LJ tends to have a livelier conversation at this time.

But..but grim and gritty that's what the kids want these days right?

I described my impression of the film (which I admit I have not seen, but based on clips+reviews from people I trust):
"If you've ever been watching a Batman film and thought to yourself "Gosh, I wish Superman was in this movie", this might be the film for you."
A friend who has seen MoS said that was pretty spot on in his opinion.

I saw it opening weekend and it was the BIGGEST disappointment in a movie I have ever seen. I had enormous problems with the movie not the least of which was what they did to Pa Kent. Yeah the new Superman is dark and gritty. But so is mixing volcanic ash in your ice cream.
(Those who listen to the Slice of Sci-fi podcast can hear my rant in the "Under the Dome" episode.)

To be fair- in the film his costume has more color, and in the context of the scene where the skulls are underfoot, it makes perfect sense and he is horrified. The film has its problems, but it's also got enjoyable bits.

The ending fight scene was fun in a DBZ way with the CGI cranked up to 11. Also the easter eggs of a Lexcorp truck was amusing, but not much else.

The reviews I've seen says the movie is dismal. I'm not interested in seeing it.

I've seen it and was underwhelmed. And the Superman is JESUS references made with the subtlety of a jackhammer made me want to throw my overpriced soda at the screen.

Superman is JESUS
Gack. Now I'm definitely not going to see it.

Not like that's anything new. One of the trailers for... I think it might have been "Superman Returns"... something in the last 10 years anyhow, had me wondering why there weren't massive fundie uprisings over the VERY CLEAR identification of Superman with the Savior.

Too bad. It's epic. The only person I know personally who saw it and didn't like it was Keith kradical
