Yikes!

(I'm not in the path, so I'm okay, but I will be keeping an eye on this one...)

Please do, m'dear. According to Weather Underground, around here it's going to plunge into the 20s for most of the weekend, then go back up to 46° by Monday, and then go cold and then snowy by the end of the week (although getting back up to 41°). Who knew our weather patterns were redesigned by the Rollercoaster Tycoon people?

We got in at noon today, well in front of it. We expect ice and snow and maybe an extra day of our vacation.

Glad you're home -- hugs to you and Lizzie. I can't remember: are either of you going to CapriCon?

Conflikt was the entirety of our con budget for some time. Probably until Musecon. We may make Minicon, since we can do that one on the cheap.

It's been a little interesting. Things were OK for most of the day. With the warm weather I left my winter coat at home and walked to the train station for lunch and get the February train ticket. When it was time to go home I looked outside and it was dark but no rain so I left my umbrella there and went to the elevator. On the way down someone commented that it was raining really bad and when we got to the ground floor we confirmed it (I'm on the 16th floor so it can be hard to tell when it's raining). So I go back up and grab my stuff and go as fast as I dare to catch my train half-expecting to miss it. Except there was hardly any rain and I felt like I went back for nothing. Fortunately I don't miss it, but it wasn't by much. I entered in the closest car and on making my way to my usual car, the doors closed and we pulled out. Whew! I found a seat, settled in, took a nap and by the first stop the rain had come back. The train stopped at the station before mine and all I could see was black out my window. Normally at this station I could see restaurant signs and what's showing at that movie theater. I thought "Crap! Blackout!" Turned out the train stopped too soon and we weren't at the station yet. That meant no blackout (there's woods right before that station). Everything was fine except for the rain. My main concern is that it's going to freeze into ice tomorrow and make for a very slippery commute to work. Maybe I can fake being sick to avoid going in.

I had to run the AC for a bit tonight to get the humidity out. Can you believe this, 60 degree weather in Chicago in January!

I know, I know. The humidity in the air is going to be a serious problem, because a lot of it is going to freeze tonight. I have a crack in my windshield that grew about three inches over the weekend.

So far, just rain. Buckets and buckets of rain. (At one point, the weather station in the backyard reported 3+ inches/hour.) Still raining even as I write this. Then it gets cold and switches to snow (over ice). Yippie.

Lotta buckets here, too. We get our snow and ice tonight and tomorrow. So I'm headin' out for supplies today.

Hmm...directly in line with the storms (about 5 minutes away) and the tornado warning siren just went off...tell you in 20 minutes.

It's supposed to be here in Louisville sometime around 3 am EST. We're under tornado watch until 5 am and wind advisory until 4 pm.

Yeep. I talked to my friend Kate last night and she indicated it wasn't too bad then, but let us know how you are as soon as you can.

In my immediate area, it looks like it got pretty windy for a while. Some stuff got blown around, but no damage that I'm aware of. Lots of rain, but I don't think there was any lightning.

The high temperatures in the NY metropolitan area flirted with 55 today. There's a high wind warning and a flash-flood watch (like we need more flooding - I'm still dealing with the damage from Superstorm Sandy) for Wednesday, and a chance of "potentially severe" thunderstorms Wednesday night, with highs 60 or higher... and then dropping back into the more normal low 40s. (It's those huge temperature differences that create the conditions for storms.) So far, though, no tornadoes are predicted around here. Yet.

Yeah, we've got a second day like that today and then temperatures plummet tonight and Thursday is back in the low 30s to upper 20s. So it's heading your way.

At 8:30 PM EST, it's still 62° F. outside, after a high of 66. It's still not raining, although it's gotten steadily more humid since midafternoon, and it's somewhat breezier than it was. I'll be awfully disappointed if the enormous, dangerous weather front does what those fronts seem to do fairly often: lose strength and break up as they approach the coastline, and leave us with just some rain and an annoying temperature change. (It's predicted to go down into the 20s tomorrow night.) The radar is just showing a thin line of heavier rain, then the usual weak weather pattern behind it. Dammit, I could use a nice thunderstorm!

The World's Greatest Husband (WGH) and I witnessed a thunderstorm in Wisconsin on Monday night, with rain continuing until sometime last night when it turned to snow. Woke up to a white earth that got whiter as the day continued. Went to work anyway, but left at 1:30 just to be safe.

Now safe and sound at home, even if I have to carry my dachshund chihuahua blend outside to go pee.

I'm still here and still alive. I think the first front moved through southwest Ohio on Wednesday morning. We had lots of winds, but I had no damage. Then the second front moved through on Wednesday evening, and the temperature dropped like a stone. Thursday morning was OK -- it had snowed north of I-70. This evening, I have snow.

These are the times I'm thankful to be unemployed this time of year.
