At past ConFusions, I've met people like Leslie, and Pete Grubbs, and Anne (although she insists it was at a 'Clave). I've heard astounding music -- Pete, and Betsy Tinney, and the premiere of Ookla the Mok's "Das UberTuber", and that's not even counting Heather Alexander and Grant Baccochio (since I'd encountered them before 'Fusion, but, hey -- we get some damn good guests).
I told you about the Home Recording panel I did at this 'Fusion. Most of the rest of the con was twofold: performance (my concert, which I thought went pretty well; and Spock Pacific, which was rough but way fun, and we got laughs in the right places, and hey) and hanging out with people I love (lots of 'em). There was laughter and sadness and techie talk and warm cookies from the front desk and oh just everything.
Oh, and... there was a New Guy.
David Hammond, known as Dixon. Also known as Dixon's Violin.
A soft-spoken, smiling ball of energy, just delighted with life and with fandom (apparently 'Fusion was his first con, and he dove right in). He was great at the Home Recording panel, not merely on the tech but on the inspirational side.
And then, his concert came 'round.
He's flippin' Aang the Avatar, all grown up, and become a violin bender.
It's not that I want to see Dixon on stage with Amy McNally and/or Alexander James Adams, although I do. It's that I want to see him on stage with Joe Giacoio.
So, one of the best parts of ConFusion this year was something I've kinda come to expect: I heard some astounding music, and I made a new friend. And I really think you will love his stuff, as well.
Any other new music by friends we should be aware of, or reminded of?
