Remember That Bit About Plans And First Contact With The Enemy...?
I couldn't get easily into the driver's side of the potentially borrowed van. Broke something on the door doing so. Hertz didn't have a car I could fit into at all. I don't have comp & collision insurance (why would I, on a $2600 14-year-old-van?), so they couldn't even rent to me. Something had to give, and it is ConTemporal. I have communicated with John Guest, the convention treasurer, and he was very understanding. If you're out Chapel Hill way, there's this really excellent bunch of folks having a steampunk convention this year, and I hope I can make it next year, and meantime they've got Phil & Kaja Foglio and a whole lotta fun. Love to you all, and have a great time, and scarf some pulled pork and hush puppies for me. If everything works under Plan 2.0, I'll be back home sometime tomorrow. I could do it today, but I need to lie down and have a good stress-related freakout/crying jag nap.

So sorry to hear the van died. I can so sympathize - we just dropped $$$$ on our Green '99 caravan, Sea Drake. Can't do much, but I did sign up for the subscription I'd been meaning to get & dropped something in the guitar case to make up for the lost con revenue. as always, *serious gentle hugs* & I'm working on the next parcel of NASA swag. Exchange store is having a sale this week. *grin*
