Tue, May. 1st, 2012, 10:38 am ... And I Thought The Sentence YESTERDAY Was WUT I DON'T EVEN

I must remember that the Washington Times is owned and operated by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, and he and his employees are fuckin' insane: The Obama campaign apparently didn’t look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, “Forward” — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism. No, really. Tell me more. Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name “Forward!” or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).”
“The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications,” the online encyclopedia explains.
The slogan “Forward!” reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism. Get outa town. Just read the rest of the excerpt that the Washington Monthly has on its site (at the link above, obviously). It's boggling. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss our civilization goodbye. This entry was originally posted at http://filkertom.dreamwidth.org/1512779.html. "Center" probably isn't the best of ideas, though.

I am outraged by the Obama campaign's appropriation of "Forward." Why is this FIB stealing the motto of the fair state of Wisconsin? Can't they come up with something original? (But seriously, it's the Washington Times, and they're going to be batshit insane. It's what they do.)

Ah. So Berlusconi was showing his Marxist roots when he named his party Forza Italia ("Forward, Italy!").

I went to the random sentence generator and got: The frivolous paranoia elaborates. At least we have an explanation for how they're coming up with these things.

I... guess he supports the Anti-Forward party. You know, the one that wants us to go backward!

To be fair, the Jewish Daily Forward, to quote their history page: "The Forward entered the din of New York's immigrant press as a defender of trade unionism and moderate, democratic socialism." Of course, the RW considers 'moderate, democratic socialism' to be an oxymoron. And the RW also thinks Socialism = Communism. Neither of these beliefs are true.

Wikipedia has an entire section called “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).Isn't it enough that they admit they're relying on Wikipedia for their research? Do they have to descend to such depths?

Yeah... so that makes the Republicans the 'BackWard!' party? Sounds about right.

So what about soccer? Is that socialist or communist?

It's just plain liberal. In soccer, you're not allowed to use your arms. People who are trying to get our kids to play soccer instead of good old American football are part of the big plot to disarm America.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with the usage of socialist, communist, or left-wing slogans...except that they're being appropriated by the guy who knocked Bill Clinton out of the #1 spot of "Best Republican President of My Lifetime." *sigh* I have words for what the self-described Republicans are, and none of them are "republican," oddly. ♫ Sooooolidarity foreeeeeeeever! Soooooolidarity foreeeeeeever! Soooooolidarity foreeeeeeever! And the union makes us strooooong! ♫

I know this is one tiny drop of drivel in a great rushing flood of it, but ... " foreign cognates?" SERIOUSLY?

I'm sure the state founders of Wisconsin were thinking of Karl Marx and Marxism when they decided to make FORWARD the motto of Wisconsin in 1851. *facepalm*
