Here It Comes Again: A "life-threatening" storm system, with the possibilities of tornadoes and hail is stretching from the Northern Plains to Texas, and definitely including Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri, heading east like a big ol' honkin' squeegee of destruction. The next few days may be awful for a lot of people in the central-to-eastern U.S. If you find yourself in the danger zone, PLEASE BE READY TO TAKE COVER IMMEDIATELY.

weatherdude at dKos keeps us informed. He does one-stop clearinghouse like nobody's business. And here's a very useful page: Weather Underground's Tornado Map, which has lots of info and a live feed of tornado warnings across the country.

(And, from several days ago, an article I've been looking for an excuse to link to: a meteorologist who made it a point to mention his conservative politics... who is not only not a climate change denier, he's really ticked off at his side of the political aisle because he's convinced there are going to be some truly devastating storms hitting major urban areas, resulting in huge casualty tolls.)

Sound off once you're in the clear.

ETA: a couple of links.

ETA2: Weatherdude's original diary is still there, but he's continuously updating this one.

There's an animated doppler-radar map that I like to use located here: http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/index_loop.php

...yeah, this does look like a rather severe one. (to put it way more mildly than I could)

The current trajectory is going to take it well north of me, but I'll keep an eye on it just in case.

It's passing south of Chicagoland now with the worst of it in south Indiana north of the river.

Yeah, I think I may go move my car and park in my garage, under the house, for the first time. I have the 2 cat carriers ready in case we have to bug out to down there.

Having lived in OK for 7 years, I now take tornados seriously.

One of my former workers told me about weatherside.com. It's a composite radar image of the entire continental US.

As usual, I'm glad you're keeping us informed. I'm still in Minneapolis and we seem to be off the major tracks of the seriously problematic weather. (Right now we're having what I still think of as Vashon Island rain -- based on the real island where I attended grades 6 through 12 -- and the other Seattle people call Liquid Sunshine. I have no problem with this, but if it changes into something else, I think I'll have some warning.

Nothing here in Chambana other than an inch of rain yesterday - badly needed. The winds are kicking up a bit, but no indication that we'll have trouble this weekend.

Had some pretty impressive wind on Saturday night, but really what was scarier was when we left Twisted Root and knocked on the window so the poor souls getting blown around outside could come in and have our table, and they shook their heads. :)
